Post-Secondary Education

North Georgia College and State University

North Georgia College & State University was founded in 1873, and is the second oldest public institution of higher learning in Georgia. One of only six senior military colleges in the country, NGCSU was the first co-educational college in the state. In 2006, the U.S. News & World Report ranked NGCSU in the top 20 colleges in the south, as part of America's Best Colleges. Offering a strong tradition of liberal arts and sciences and a vast campus covering 112 acres — home to the nationally-registered, historic Price Memorial Hall whose steeple is coated with Dahlonega gold — North Georgia College & State University continues to play a major role in the heritage of Dahlonega. Under Amendment 23 to the Georgia Constitution, persons aged 62 and older can enroll in college courses for a substantially-reduced cost. Click here for more information on this exciting program.
